Weird Uses...Did you know?

A few Weird Uses for well known products...

I just snagged a few I though would be useful to fellow Etsians. http://www.wackyuses.com/uses.html

Polish jewelry. Drop two Alka-Seltzer tablets into a glass of water and immerse the jewelry for two minutes.

Clean tarnished silverware. Line a metal cake pan with Reynolds Wrap and fill with enough water to cover the silverware. Add two tablespoons baking soda per quart of water. Heat the water above 150 degrees Fahrenheit. Place the tarnished silverware in the pan so it touches the aluminum foil. Do not let the water boil. The hydrogen produced by boiling baking soda combines with the sulfur in the tarnish, removing the stains.

Prevent silver from tarnishing. Apply a thin coat of Alberto VO5 Conditioning Hairdressing with a soft cloth to clean, polished, dry silver candlesticks, picture frames, silver sets, and other decorative items. Wipe off excess leaving behind a very thin, virtually invisible, protective coating. VO5's organic protectants actually prevent tarnishing.

Remove tarnish from silver. Mix a thick paste of Arm & Hammer Baking Soda with water, apply the silver with a damp sponge, rub, rinse, and buff dry.

Deodorize cloth diapers. Mix one-half cup Arm & Hammer Baking Soda in two quarts of water, and soak diapers in the solution.

Clean chrome bumpers and hubcaps. Sprinkle Arm & Hammer Baking Soda on a damp sponge, rub surface, and wipe clean with a dry cloth.

Clean wooden knick-knacks and other wood objects. Lightly coat the wood with Alberto VO5 Conditioning Hairdressing, then buff.

Clean varnished woodwork. Cold Lipton Tea is a good cleaning agent for any kind of woodwork.

Clean eyeglasses. The phosphoric acid cleans the grunge from eyeglasses, (Coca-Cola)then rinse with water.

Lubricate a zipper. Rub ChapStick along the teeth of the zipper to make it zip smoothly.

Clean blood stains from clothes. Saturate the blood stain with Coca-Cola, let sit five minutes, then launder as usual. Coke removes blood from clothing—even dried blood that has gone through the washing machine and dryer

Shine leather shoes. In a pinch, rub ChapStick over the leather and buff with a dry, clean cloth.

Condition leather. If you're all out of mink oil, substitute Alberto VO5 Conditioning Hairdressing.

Protect leather shoes and boots from winter salt and ice. Rub in Alberto VO5 Conditioning Hairdressing.

Make your own gift wrapping paper. Add five drops McCormick Food Coloring to one cup water, making one cup for each one of the four colors. Stack several sheets of white tissue paper on top of each other, fold them in half, in half again, and in half again. Dip each one of the four corners into a different color solution without soaking the paper. Let the tissue dry on newspaper, unfold, then iron flat.

Recolor small bleach spots on clothing. Mix McCormick Food Coloring with water to make the proper shade and apply to the spot.

Remove dried glue and gum left from price tags and labels from glass, metals, and most plastics. Apply Wishbone Thousand Island Dressing and wipe clean.

Make colorful glues. Fill an empty SueBee honey bear with Elmer's Glue-All and tint with a few drops of McCormick Food Coloring.

Prevent thread from tangling. Run a threaded needle through a sheet of Bounce to eliminate the static cling on the thread before sewing.
