Back from Pensacola - Neela Update

It was definitely along trip. We arrived at Nemours Clinic early and ready to get started. Neela wasn't happy! Going to the doctors often tends to make children know what to expect and with the last few times resulting in blood drawn she wasn't too thrilled to have her weight and height checked. After a bit of coaching I was able to put her on the scale. She weighted in at 21.2 lbs and she gained a quarter of an inch since May(I forgot the measurement). Her weight actually dropped a half a pound.
So we got into the room and they set up all the equipment to start her IV and drawn the base line blood. We started with her hand and the vein blew, then the inside of her arm..and the vein blew, this continued just about every location they tried. Eventually we made a compromise that they could try one last time because it was just to hard to watch her fight off the needle. So we tried the foot for one good stick and thankfully it went in. They wrapped her foot like a cast because hey after all that work we didn't want to risk it getting pulled out.
Now comes the medicine... The first dose is intravenous and another had to be crushed and put in a syringe. She was doing really well and sat still for the first 20 minutes to pass. When they took the second sample she got nauseous and threw up... She is such a trooper.
It was sooo cute. Right after she got sick she just couldn't fight it any longer and she fell fast asleep. Sunshine and Penny were fantastic nurses. Sunshine stayed with us the whole time. She explained how the blood was broken down and what the labs looked for and how it all works. I was so grateful for the Nemours staff. Every doctor we see is just so sweet, warm and caring.
Now it is time to wait it out for the next 2 weeks. I am nervous and excited at the same time. I am just anxious to know the answers. We plan to head back in Aug for a follow up visit. I hope they don't wait until then to let us know the results. Thanks for letting me share this with you. Its a new page in our life and it's a bit unfamiliar. I am thankful to have a great deal of friends both near and far and we really appreciate all for your warm wishes. You guys are the best =)

I am so glad that Neela made it through the tests easily. I know about those blown veins I can only imagine what it would be like to be a toddler and have it happen. As usual Neela and the rest of the family are in my prayers.
